Toxicity experience

Expérience toxicité

September - Novembre 2019

Basic data

Goal of experimentation

The aim of the experiment was to measure a possible toxicity, and in particular the exposure to acrylamides contained in the hydrogel molecule, on cucumbers grown with RAINCATCHER BLUE and GREEN. This experience was checked by Mr. Astanbek Akmatov, agronomist of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, since the objective was also to obtain a request for approval for the planting of RAINCATCHER in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Principle and conditions of experience

We therefore planted 16 cucumber plants under the effects of the RAINCATCHER BLUE and GREEN, in two rows, 8 of which were subjected to limited watering.

The idea was to take advantage of this experience to make comparative measurements of returns.

The greenhouse we use measures 66 x 30 meters, making a total surface of 2000 m². It has 10 compartments in its length which each have 4 rows for a total of 40 rows.

In terms of watering, each day and over a period of 10 hours, watering is 7 tons of water from a well dug near the greenhouse, therefore an average watering for a plant of 0.7 liters per day.

Doses of 3g were deposited at 5 cm deep with a seed planted at 3 cm.

Month #1

One month after planting, we find that RC BLUE is more active than RC GREEN on cucumbers. The growth of cucumbers with RC BLUE is greater by 35%.

We check that the roots are well fixed on the gel nodules to validate that our cucumbers grow under the effect of RAINCATCHER and therefore that our toxicity results will be relevant.

Month #2

A disease has appeared. Bacteria have been brought back with the earth in the greenhouse during its preparation and seem to attack the roots of the cucumber plants and the leaves have yellowed or even wilted in places. According to agronomists, the disease developed quickly because of the excessively high humidity which could not be countered due to the lack of adequate ventilation systems.

To our surprise, the plants grown with RAINCATCHER in the area with limited watering seem to have been less affected by the disease.

We have therefore commissioned a distinguished Professor working with the FAO and based in Albania to conduct tests with his university to find out how RAINCATCHER can limit exposure to diseases in the greenhouse (experience to come up).

From the first grown cucumbers, we called a team from the French laboratory SGS to the greenhouse to take seals of grown cucumbers with RAINCATCHER before sending them to France to do an acrylamide research. Yield measurements were not completed due to disparate disease interactions.

Toxicity test

The results are clear: cucumbers grown with RAINCATCHER show no toxic traces in relation to acrylamides.

We present below the analysis report from the SGS laboratory which indicates an amount less than 50 micrograms, this value being the smallest value measurable by their scientific devices.
